Mangaluru, Feb 28: Mangalore International Airport here was shut for at least two hours on Tuesday February 28 after the tyre of a Navy plane burst.
It is learnt that a Navy plane made an emergency landing at the airport due to hydraulic failure, and while landing, one of its tyres burst. It was then unable to move, rendering the runway non-functional.
As a precautionary measure, the runway was shut on Tuesday evening. Three flights, including one from Delhi that were scheduled to arrive at the airport were diverted to Bengaluru.
The flights that were supposed to take off from Mangaluru airport have been delayed.
When contacted, airport director J T Radhakrishna informed daijiworld that teams from Goa have arrived to fix the aircraft and clear the runway, and it may take another hour to resume operations.
