Ajman, Mar 2: More than 2000 students from 28 different colleges and universities will compete in 226 events across 10 categories, over 6 days.
The 16th annual sports festival of Gulf Medical University (GMU), the leading private medical University in the region owned and operated by Dubai-based international conglomerate Thumbay Group, got off to a colorful start at the university campus on Saturday February 25.
Considered the biggest sports festival of the country, this year’s edition of the event had the participation of more than 2000 students from 28 different colleges and universities, who will compete in 226 events across 10 categories, over 6 days. The festival is being hosted and organized by Body & Soul Health Club and Spa, the award-winning network of health clubs operated by the hospitality division of Thumbay Group.
The event was formally inaugurated by the chief guest, provost of GMU, professor Gita Ashok Raj, in the presence of the deans of various colleges of GMU, sports directors, students and officials of the participating colleges and universities. A colorful march-past of the participating teams followed by the torch-lighting ceremony which kickstarted the event were the highlights of the opening ceremony. There was also a fitness and exercise demonstration by the city's Body & Soul Health Club & Spa, emphasizing the message of healthy living.
The teams will vie for prizes in the following game categories: football, cricket, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, tennis, badminton, throw ball, squash and swimming. Medals and trophies for the winners will be distributed at the closing ceremony on Thursday March 2. All the participants will be awarded certificates of participation.
The grand sports event is held each year keeping in view the philosophy of Gulf Medical University 'Healthy Body for a Healthy Mind' and to instill the spirit of sportsmanship and healthy competition among the students.
