Panaji, Mar 3: Goa police today said that they would be interrogating BJP leader Vishwajit Krishnarao Rane soon in connection with allegations of his involvement in a murder case reported in the year 2006.
“Vishwajit Krishnarao Rane will be interrogated very shortly in this matter. At present our teams are still searching for evidence of the murder as reported by the person who claimed to have witnessed the killing,” police inspector Dipak Pednekar said.
Pandurang Adarkar, former driver of the leader had told police that he was witness to the killing of one Shanu Gaonkar in the year 2006 at a bar and restaurant at Honda village in Sattari taluka.
The former driver who is native of Chandgad in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra had accused Rane of shooting Gaonkar and disposing off his body at Anmod ghat, a forest area on Goa-Karnataka border.
Pednekar said that the police teams have been extensively searching the area of Anomod Ghat since the last ten days but could not get any evidence in the case. “We have not withdrawn our search operation. It is still going on,” he said.
Goa police team had also visited Chandgad village where the witness lives and tried to know whether he (witness) had spoken about the incident to any neighbour during the last few months of his stay there.
“None of the neighbours knew about this incident. He had not opened up to anyone,” Pednekar said.
Rane, who had contested on BJP ticket from Poriem constituency, had denied his involvement in the matter claiming that his former driver was upset with him as he was sacked from the job, two and half months before the State legislative assembly election.
