Gadag, Mar 13: Four persons from a minority community were stripped and assaulted on Saturday March 11 by some members of a right wing organisation for allegedly circulating an ‘inflammatory’ video clipping. The incident took place in Nargund town of Gadag district.

Khajesaba Malasamudra (26) and three others were thrashed by nine members of the group, as per police version. But the victims said that the group consisted of more than 40 people. Three severely injured victims are taking treatment at Karnataka Institute of Medical Science Hubballi, while another is recovering at a hospital in Nargund. .

It is said the video clipping was recorded seven months ago and circulated to members of a Hindu group recently.

Angered by this, some members of a right wing organisation arrived at a tailoring shop where the 3 of the 4 victims were working, dragged them out, stripped them and thrashed them black and blue all the way to Nargund police station. The distance between the shop and police station is half a kilometre.

The police later arrested 3 of the 9 main accused with the help of a video that has recorded the thrashing incident. Police said that the footage was clear enough to identify the attackers.

Police also said that search is on for the remaining 6 attackers and Jamal, who recorded the inflammatory video.

Leaders of both the communities refused to register a complaint as it would snowball into an issue. A peace meeting of both the communities will be held soon.
