Kundapur, Mar 14: Pall of gloom descended on Gangolli village in the taluk, which was in a mood of celebrations on the occasion of Holi, after the news of the death of a youth from here in a road accident reached the villagers.

Mangala Kharvi (29), a resident of Dakhuhitlu at Gangolli, who was riding the pillion of a motor bike, suffered grave injuries after the bike skidded at Chuttimane Kodlu in Harkur village in the taluk on Monday March 13. Kharvi, a worker involved with collection of sea shells, was extremely popular. He has left behind a huge army of admirers and friends.

Mangala Kharvi had taken part in a meeting of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh held at Alur on Monday. He was returning home, duly seated in the pillion of the motor bike belonging to his friend, Rama Kharvi. Because the motor bike was moving at high speed and was driven recklessly, the two-wheeler went out of the control of its rider and fell to the road. Mangala Kharvi sustained serious injuries to his head in the accident. He was immediately taken to a private hospital in the town, and then to KMC Hospital at Manipal. Kharvi, who was fighting for life at the hospital at Manipal, breathed his late night on Monday. Rama Kharvi is being treated in a private hospital at Kundapur.

Mangala Kharvi, a hard working individual, was soft-spoken and altruist person. Because of his friendly behaviour, he had earned a large group of friends. His untimely death has left his close circles high and dry, who do not know how to cope with this loss. As the news came in, Holi celebrations subsided and the situation at Gangolli turned gloomy.

A case about the road accident was registered in Gangolli police station. The body of Kharvi is being brought to Gangolli from Manipal.
