Muscat Girl Sana Riyaz Kazi Wins `Konkan Sundari' Beauty Title

Muscat, Mar 6: Oman-based Sana Riyaz Kazi won the ‘Konkan Sundari title 2008’ (Konkan Beauty Queen) held at Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Stadium, Ratnagiri district in Maharashtra recently.

Sana was born in India, but has studied from KG to Class X at Indian School Muscat (ISM). She passed out Class X last year.

Around 100 girls participated in the preliminary elimination rounds, among which only 15 were selected for ‘Konkan Sundari’ title – 2008. About 15,000 spectators watched this grand event at the stadium.

Bollywood actress Preeti Jhangiani crowned Sana the winner. When Preeti asked Sana how she felt on winning the title, she replied, “I am on the moon. The ‘Best Photogenic Face’ award at the same competition was awarded to Sana. Prior to winning this title, she also won the ‘first runners-up’ title at the inter-collegiate beauty contest last month.

‘Konkan Sundari’ is an annual event held in Maharashtra state, at different locations, to select a ‘beauty queen’ — from among neighbouring Konkan districts including Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindadurg.

All local newspapers — Ratnagiri Times, Tarun Bharat and Sakal to name a few carried this news as headlines. “Oman’s Sana Kazi crowned – ‘Konkan Sundari – 2008’” said the Sakal headlines. Immediately after the results, Marathi film director, Ashok Patil (also director of Hindi TV serials) Shararat and Rishto ki dor offered Sana a role in the film Sanga Mi Raya Kashi Diste. She has also got an offer to star in an album.

Sana now has an opportunity to participate in Femina Miss India. Sana’s parents are working in Muscat Pharmacy. She has featured in many fashion shoots and covers of some of the magazines of Muscat.
