Ajman, Mar 21: Gulf Medical University, a leading private medical university established in 1998, has embarked on a major transformation of all its sectors with an emphasis on research and innovation.
Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman inaugurated the new Innovation and Research Centre and the Thumbay Institute of Precision Medicine and Translational Research (TIPM&TR). He was accompanied by the founder and president Board of Governors of Gulf Medical University Thumbay Moideen, the chancellor of the university professor Hossam Hamdy and other ruling family members, ministry officials, representatives from foreign missions, academic leaders and doctors from all over UAE.
The new research center will lead a new dimension in medical research by introducing precision medicine. Two other institutes are in advancing phase of development- The Thumbay Institute of Population Health and The Thumbay Institute of Healthcare Workforce Development and Leadership.
Gulf Medical University has invested more than 20 million dirhams in the innovation centre. The Thumbay Institute of Precision Medicine and Translational Research will focus on two main research domains - diabetics and cancer. The researchers at the Institute seek to address the importance of tailoring the treatment protocol for each patient to what is unique about them genetically, lifestyle and environmental wise. The researchers are investigating on new diagnostic investigations for the early detection of cancer and response to different modalities of treatment.
Thumbay Institute of Precision Medicine and Translational Research (TIPM&TR) will serve as a hub for researchers, faculty, clinicians and students interested in medical research and become incubators for innovation startup companies, and launch innovative products and services. The institute also aims to spur medical innovation and offer a platform for healthcare researchers, biomedical innovators and medical scientists in the region and foster collaborations and partnerships with international institutions like Wisconsin Medical University USA,Gustave Roussy from Paris, leading universities from Bahrain, Switzerland and Italy, research labs, pharma companies and the healthcare industry.
We would like to initiate international collaboration by bringing together leaders in science and the entire scientific community including the academia and industry to foster creativity and enhance innovation in a rapidly changing world says professor Hossam Hamdy. Centers of Excellence will form an important part of the university's strategic and thematic planning, to significantly raise its profile and reflect its considered long-term priorities added professor Hamdy. Thumbay Institute of Precision Medicine and Translational Research (TIPM&TR) will have state-of-the-art research laboratories with new technology in genetics, Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), 3D Tissue Printing, Bio Innovation Incubator, Health Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Innovation, Stem Cell Research and Bioavailability & Bioequivalence Studies.
The Thumbay Institute of Precision Medicine and Translational Research (TIPM&TR) will realize its mission through a wide range of activities such as convening workshops, symposia and conferences to showcase cutting-edge research and explore collaborative solutions to impending health problems. We wish to create opportunities for graduate students and other young researchers to connect with other international institutions and support them in their careers. We welcome collaboration, input, participation and engagement. We seek partnerships locally, across the region and the world to collaborate on research, knowledge-sharing, and education and training programs, concluded professor Hamdy.
