Mangaluru: AJIMS hosts 5-day global conference 'Phoenix'

Mangaluru, Mar 24: Nearly 600 delegates, predominantly medical students of different ethnicities within and outside the boundaries of India, including countries like Russia, Ukraine, United Kingdom, Bangladesh, Algeria, Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Colombia, Iran and Italy, among many others converged at AJ Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre on Wednesday March 22 for the international medical students’ conference 'Phoenix'.

The five-day conference  will last until Sunday, March 26.

This is the second edition of the conference. The first of which was held in 2014,  with nearly 750 student participants. The conference offers the bio-medical students worldwide, an opportunity to present their research, participate in various unique and informative workshops, be enlightened by eminent guest speakers, who are the best and the brightest in their fields, and network with fellow students. 

The research papers presented will include a massive variety of bio-medical topics discussed globally.

Chief guest K C Venugopal, an MP from Kerala, and guests of honour Dr Thimappa Hegde, director of the Narayana Institute of Neurosciences, and M Chandra Sekhar, the Police Commissioner of Mangaluru City inaugurated the programme.

Dr AJ Shetty, chairman of AJ Institutions, Prashanth Shetty, vice president of Laxmi Memorial Education Trust, Dr Prashanth Marla, medical director A J Hospital, eminent speakers of the conference namely Dr Zhuo Hua Pan from Wayne State University, USA, Dr Roger Evans from Monash University, Australia, Dr Anita Borges from Asian Institute of Oncology, Dr Ranjan Kumar Pejavar from St Martha’s Hospital, Dr Anthony Pais from Narayana Hrudalaya Mazumdar Shaw Institute of Oncology, and Dr Cheng Hwee Ming from University of Malaya, Malaysia were also present.

The welcome address was delivered by Prof Dr Ashok Hegde, dean and programme director, AJIMS. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Kalpana Ashfaque, assistant programme director. The programme was compered by Aafreen Rachel Vaz, a student at AJIMS.
