Mangaluru: Suratkal market work at standstill, MCC should not use cattle grazing land: Palemar

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, Mar 28: "Congress ministers are trying to misguide people with fake promises of upgrading the Suratkal market," said former minister Krishna J Palemar.

Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday March 28, Palemar said, "A year ago, the foundation stone was laid by chief minister Siddaramaiah for shifting the existing market to the Kendra Maidan, which is a 'Gomaala' (cattle grazing) area, at Suratkal. Even after a year of laying the foundation stone nothing has been done. It was the duty of the chief minister secretriat to collect information about the progress of the work on Suratkal market.

"During my tenure, I had sent a proposal for the project with an estimated budget of Rs 120 crore, but it was not approved by the administration. In order to upgrade the existing market, Rs 3 crore has been sanctioned and makeshift arrangements have been made for 87 shops of Suratkal market at Kendra Maidan (cattle grazing land) at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore to facilitate the construction of a new building at the existing market place," he added.

He also said that MCC was using the cattle grazing land to build the new Suratkal market building, instead of doing so at the existing place. "The MCC is trying to misguide people by planning to construct permanent market at the cattle grazing land instead of temporary market. MCC is not permitted to construct permanent market at the cattle grazing land. Even the local association objected to these development works and notice has been issued through the court. There is no proof that that only a temporary market is being constructed. Even the MCC officials are unaware about the project.

"MCC has no right to construct the permanent market at the area which is meant for cattle grazing. I urge to stall the works," he added.

Bharath Shetty said, "The local minister alleged that the opposition party is trying to interrupt the development work. We have always supported every development work at Suratkal. There is a need for proper planning of the project. If you notice, every project is half done, be it bus stand, market or road constuction and none of the projects is completed. MCC needs to plan the project and execute it accordingly, only then will people support the development works."

Corporator Tilak Raj and Ashok Kumar were present.

Do not interfere in Suratkal's development: MLA Bava

Last week, in a press meet Mangaluru north MLA Mohiuddin Bava had given a list of development works in Suratkal and said, "A tender has been invited for the construction of a new bus stand at Suratkal which will come up at an estimated cost of Rs 2 crore. Funds have been also alloted for the new market and auto rickshaw stand. We will hand over these facilities to public before monsoons."

"The road from Kalikamba to Suratkal will be converted into a six-lane road at the cost of Rs 6 crore which has been alloted by the state government. The new RTO office at Suratkal is ready for operation. We are awaiting the confirmation of ministers' availability for its inauguration. We have even secured permission for a new railway bridge and a 30-bed hospital from related authorities. We will fix the dates for the foundation stone laying of these projects very soon," Bava had said.

He had further informed that a non-registered local association had expressed objection to the planned development works and even sent a notice through the court to stall the progress. "My humble request to these people is, do not try to stop the ongoing development works at Suratkal. If you continue interfering, we will also approach the court."

we had a good hope from Palemar once. Palemar must be aware of petty uneducated goons growing in Suratkal area intensely . These goons are growing into Cult Figures now which is dangerous and politicians are using them for their benefit. All these goons have Dirty mind but they project as good people. These goons indulge into negotiations which is courts job and not theres and pretend to help poor . These goons have good influence in police stations and have advance informations and are respected by police and by public . These goons have influence in BJP as well as congress and they switch sides as required. Top police officials are regular visitor in their houses including politicians. These uneducated goons is thereat to society and common people and must be stopped at this stage itself . Time will come these goons who are nursed by mainly politicians will once eat the same politician who has nursed them . Politicians must be aware a uneducated goon is nobodys friend and will go to any extent to get what he wants.

The area is not called gomaala, actually it is called as Kendra Maidan by the locals and all the free programmes/events of nearby suratkal areas were held here as there is no other place available near suratkal and it attracted all the people who visited suratkal city and market and there was no other place for public to celebrate.

Mr Palemar's building is coming to completion near the suratkal over bridge and if any vehicle coming from Udupi side would like to come to suratkal below the bridge to suratkal it is a horrowing experience as Mr Palemar did not even gave a meter space to the vehicles to passby. There were no ragpickers 10 years ago now they are occupied most of the space near this kendra maidam (gomaala)

It is sickening for locals like me to see the comments made by these politicians as they have no respect for the development of the city.

Palemar probably wants the grazing land for the Bajrang Dal office or acquire it for a landlinks township and not for the development of the Surathkal market complex. He flouted every muncipal rule during his tenure as District Minister.

Are we becoming the only country in the world where a major portion of general public, media , politicians and administration is engaged in discussing about cow ? ....And where many youngsters get up in the morning and plan what kind of new issues to start about cow instead of thinking about industry, science, economics and art?

India will never improve with these type of people around. Look at their faces. How many of their cattle graze over there? First of all its not the duty of MCC to provide grazing ground for your cattle. keep the cattle in the cow shed and feed it.

First, respect human being and life. Ensure all the citizen of India especially poor get proper food, shelter, education and then we can concentrate on animals. Important is human life not animal. GOD created animals for human usage not humans are created for animals. Just know this basic principle then all the problem of especially Indian society shall be solved by itself.

Respect and treat the cows nicely protect them and don't let them roam on the roads without , food , water and shelter . But why 1.25 crore people should waste their time on debating about this in the media, parliament, elections, high court, supreme court, police stations ....etc ...i dont think that is the right thing to do . We have lot many things to look at unemployment, water scarcity, polllution , GST which is not getting the right focus and attention .
This will lead to cows inside the sheds happy and well fed and humans hungry and in jails and on streets without basic needs

BJP demolished Bejai Market and shifted all vendors to Foot Path nears School & Church forcing small school children to walk on the busy road while going to School and returning, till 5 years of BJP tenure they din't even touch the Market and plans were the to Build a Private Commercial Building but soon Congress came to power took initiative and handed over the New Bejai Market to Public,

This guy Palemar was the MLA of the region for such long time, no road constructed nor market built, neither the bustop or rickshaw park. Now when someone else is doing it he has problems even with that. Neither did he do anything, nor is he allowing another to do.

In this fight between parties works get stalled putting the growth of the town on hold and commoner looses. My only request to Mr.Palemar is please rise over politics & request to MLA is please do as you have promised.
