Margao, Mar 12:
The Goa Municipal Employees Association (GMEA) on Tuesday March 11 staged a dharna at the Margao Municipal Council (MMC), demanding cancellation of the order recruiting new daily wage workers. Members of the GMEA raised slogans against the chief officer N D Agarwal, demanding his transfer in the course of their demonstration here.

"In all fifty-three workers are taken on daily wages for employment, out of which three is for the  driver's post. They are not appointed in accordance with the correct procedure, for which we have demanded that government should issue revoke orders," belegerently declared the general secretary of GMEA, Anil Shirodkar.

Furthermore Shirodkar informed that earlier they had given the strike call in this regard. He alleged that the chief officer had purposely suspended one clerk, after he came to know about the strike notice. This irked the members of GMEA, who then staged the demonstrations in the early hours of work.

According to informed sources chief officer N D Agarwal's transfer order has been already issued.
