Rebuffed youth attacks BJP lawmaker's daughter in Pune

Pune (Maharashtra), Apr 4 (IANS): Enraged at his advances being rebuffed, a college youth attacked and injured a BJP legislator's daughter studying in a Pune college on Monday morning, officials said. The attacker has been arrested.

Accused Rajendra Bakshi, 23, accosted the 22-year-old daughter of a Bharatiya Janata Party legislator from Yavatamal district and attacked her with a sharp weapon around 8 a.m. outside the Balaji Institute of Modern Management (BIMM).

The city police said the young girl was on her way to college from her hostel. Some passers-by caught hold of the attacker and handed him over to the police in Wakad area of Pune.

Both Bakshi and the young girl are students of the college and she had rebuffed his advances to her.

Police officials said the girl, a management student, had earlier complained to the college management against Bakshi for allegedly harassing her.

Her legislator father said in Nagpur that she had suffered some injuries, besides a broken finger.

"She is admitted to a local hospital and is out of danger. We have no knowledge about the youth or his antecedents," the lawmaker said.
