Mangaluru: Kudla Express to Bengaluru to become operational on April 9

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Apr 6: The long-expected Kudla Express train between the city and Bengaluru, which will bring down travel time from the current 12 to 9 hours, will begin operations on April 9. The train will take Hassan-Shravanabelagola route. However, the train will run from Junction station here instead of Central. The railways claim that they do not have spare platform for running this train from the Central station.

Union railway minister, Suresh Prabhu, it is understood, will be flagging off the train at 11 am on April 9 from Kankanady (Junction) station through video conferencing facility from New Delhi. At the same time, organizations of railway commuters have decided to boycott the inaugural ceremony because of the decision of the railways to run the train from Junction station.

Palakkad division of railways says that it decided to operate the train from Junction station because of the non-availability of platform at Central station. However, people and railway organizations believe that the train will prove disastrous unless it is run from Central station as people will be compelled to pay hefty hire charges to taxies and auto rickshaws to reach Junction station.

Run Trivandrum exp 16348 and Ernad Express from Mangalore junction and allow Kudla express run from central. If this thing happens in Kerala people would have burnt down Railway station.

Due to non availability of slot, Mumbai superfast is running from Junction. However Palghat division could squeeze one more intercity express to Kerala from Mangalore central later on.
Whether the local MP/MLA's/Ministers do not make any attempts to know what is happening to their electrorate like their Kerala counterparts? Why not originate/terminate some Kerala trains from Ullal as somebody has suggested and spare Central station for the Mangaloreans?

It is good news, but, the question is how to reach the Mangalore Junction ? The road coming from Nagori to Mangalore Railway junction is very narrow due to which there is always traffic jam, fights, screaming and shouting between the car and autorickshaw drivers . No two vehicles can pass easily.

From Padil side there is another problem i.e. due to the under way pass work which is being carried out for the Railway crossing the dug up mud has been blocking the tar road and a haphazard muddy detour is made for the passing of vehicles. On both the approach roads to the Mangalore junction it is really a big headache. Has the Mangalore Corporation looked into this to sort out the problems of passengers and other road users ?

I have seen some of the railway bridges in ghat section in previous news articles and they don't look up to the mark. This could be the reason why the train takes such a long time. The structure looks as if it's built for temporary purpose & in this case I don't think it can be certified for moderate speed in ghat section.

Is this train only for those who are residing at Yeshvantpur and nearby places ? If train start from Mangalore at 11 A.M it will reach 8 or 8.30 P.M. In any case if there is a delay (it will be there always for sure) in between to give way to other trains or goods train it will reach Yeswantpur at 9.30 or 10 P.M. To come from there no BMTC buses at that time, so people have to spend Rs 300 plus for taxi, Then for who's benefit this train ? When doing, do something useful and not just for the sake of doing. At least this train start at 9 A.M. it will be good for passengers as well railways also.

Appears that most of the time is lost in the ghat section. They should consider double track from Hassan to Bangalore so that the trains can travel much faster without much waiting time for oncoming trains to pass. There is plenty of scope for it reach Bangalore within 7 hours. Average speed must be increased from the current 30 -> not 40 but atleast 60 Kms/hr. Must consider diverting the night train also through this route rather than a detour to Mysore.

What are the timings of this Kudla Express? Whether daily or weekly?
Yes the train should have started from Mangalore Central not Mangalore junction. Alternatively wider approach road, availability of public transport, buses are needed at Mangalore junction to make this train attractive.

Good ..At Last.....even if the train starts from Junction...
The local authorities should provide better Transport facilities at Manglore Junction.
They must get the Road tarred on top priority and City buses should touch the Station.
A prepaid Auto/Taxi counter is welcome.......
