Pune, Apr 6: The Samyukta Konkani Sabha of GSBs, Pune celebrated Ugadi this year with great pomp and splendour. The Sabha performed a Samuhika Satyanarayana Pooja which saw some 50 families offering coconut and fruits. The Yajaman for the Seva was Prasanna Bichu, who runs a succesful business in Pune.
After Satyanarayan Puja, melodious bhajans were sung in glory of the Lord by their own Bhajan troupe. The crowd of almost 200 joined in some of the more popular and well known bhajans, making the atmosphere of the Hall as pious as the temple.
Ratnakar Bhat was joined by 'Vaidik' Manjunath Bhat and assisted by Laxmish Bhat.
After the Bhajan, Manjunath Bhat read out and translated the Panchanga and foretold how the year is expected to unfold.
Upendra Bhat elucidated the importance of the Panchanga and gave the adults and youngsters alike tips on living a more Satvik life and the importance of upholding traditions.
After the Maha Arathi, the Samyukta Konkani Sabha felecitated Upendra Bhat in recognizing the Special Cultural Award he received from the Government of Maharashtra. He was felicitated by principal of JSPM College, Dayanand Bilgi, a stalwart in the field of education in Pune.
Both Upendra Bhat and Bilgi exhorted the members of the sabha to make greater efforts to improve the network amongst Samaj Bandhavas to have a premises of their own.
The function culminated with distribution of prasadam and a sumptuous Ugadi dinner comprising Bibye upkari, chana-kadgi ghashi, ambe upkari, dali toi and Madgane.
The crowd of amchigeles all reflected the same thoughts that indeed it was a festive and joyous beginning to the new Samvatsar, and all made promises to keep in touch and keep the jyoti of amchigeles in Pune burning brighter with every passing day.
The organizers said they were grateful to the management of the Karnataka Sangha for their continued benevolence of giving them the air-conditioned Hall in the Shamrao Kalmadi School.
