Jammu traders threaten violence against Bangladeshi, Rohingya refugees

Jammu, April 7 (IANS): A Jammu traders organisation on Friday threatened an "identify and kill" campaign against Bangladeshi and Rohingya refugees living in the region unless the government deported them to Myanmar immediately.

"Keeping in view the growing threat from Bangladeshis and Rohingyas whom the chamber looks upon as criminals and drug traffickers disowned by their own countries, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry demands their deportation from the state," Rakesh Gupta, President of the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry told the media.

Gupta warned the state and the Central governments that such settlers should be deported within one month otherwise the traders' body shall have no option but to launch an "Identify and Kill Movement" against such criminals.

Besides some citizens of Bangladesh who are living illegally in Jammu, there are over 10,000 Rohingya Muslims who are living in Jammu and Samba districts.

These refugees had fled Myanmar during the persecution of Muslims in that country.
