Kimutai claims victory in Rotterdam Marathon


The Hague ( Netherlands), Apr 10 (IANS): Kenyan athlete Marius Kimutai won the 37th edition of the Rotterdam Marathon, beating his compatriots Lawrence Cherono and Laban Korir.

Kimutai accelerated from Cherono and Korir after 40 km on Sunday. With a time of two hours, six minutes and four seconds, he came in alone on the Coolsingel Street finish. Cherono (2:06:21) finished second and Korir (2:06:25) completed the Kenyan podium, reports Xinhua news agency.

Meskerem Assefa from Ethiopia won the women's race. She pulled away from Eunice Chumba from Kenya in the final kilometer and ran a personal best of 2:24:18. Chumba came in nine seconds later and Kenyan Lucy Karimi (2:25:17) finished third.
