Mangaluru, Apr 11: 'Mock trial on consumer law' was organised by the Department Of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, K S Hegde Medical Academy in collaboration with SDM Law College's PG and research students in Law, on Thursday, April 6. Case pending before State Commission filed under section 17 of Consumer Protection Act 1986 was taken up.
Dr Raghavendra Bhat, president of IMA Mangaluru, was the guest of honour.
This interdisciplinary mock court was presented to the target audience mainly comprising medical practitioners and medical students, at KSHEMA auditorium.
Arguments in favour of both the complainant and respondents were made. Facts of the case were brought to the fore. Points for consideration, framed by honourable state commission were read out. Various case laws were cited in support of the respondents, and a conclusion arrived at.
The SDM law college team with its young, confident and well-versed students headed by professor Uday Kumar gave an outstanding performance on court proceedings.
A total of 22 students had participated in the simulated trial assuming the various roles like dafedar, bench clerk, respondent witness, complainant witness and advocates for the respondents as well as the complainants.
With more than 150 students and consultants participating, the event was a great success.
