Mumbai, Apr 15: A daylong annual sports day was organised by Ganiga Samaja at the GSB Sports Club Auditorium, Kings circle, Matunga recently. Ganiga Samaja Mumbai president Kutpadi Ramchandra M Ganiga presided over the inaugural.
"Sports is not an indicator of one's capacity. It is an art to helps keep one healthy. Sports events show love of community members and is not a competition. It helps in getting to know each other. Conversations with each other helps to learn more about our own culture, as much as it builds relationships amongst ourselves. Such relationships are conducive to a community life," Ramachandra said.
Hundreds of community members displayed their talents in both indoor and outdoor games. The day had an exhaustive lineup of events comprising carom, lemon and spoon, musical chair, drawing competition, ball in bucket, running race, shot put, throw ball and cricket.
Honorary president Jagannath M Ganiga, vice president Bhasker M Ganiga, honorary chief secretary Chandrashekar R Ganiga, joint secretary B Jagadish Ganiga, honorary treasurer Jayanth Padmanabha Ganiga, working committee members Asha Harish Thonse, Arathi Sathish Ganiga, Veena Dinesh Ganiga, Poornima Kalyanpur, Veena Rao Chembur, Sathish B Rao, Gopalakrishna Govinda Ganiga, Jayanth Ganiga, Rajesh Kutpadi, Raghu Ganiga Chakala, Shubha Ganesh Kutpadi, several office bearers and members were present on occasion.
Youth wing executive president Ganesh R Kutpadi welcomed the gathering. Ramachandra Ganiga honoured the guests with floral bouquets. Former secretary B V Rao led the gathering into prayer and administered the oath to the participants. Chandrashekar R Ganiga proposed the vote of thanks.
