MANGALORE, Mar 22: Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore Diocese, led the Christian community for “Reflection of Way” of the Cross at Rosario Cathedral on Good Friday here.
Good Friday, also called Holy Friday or Great Friday, is the Friday prior to Easter Sunday on which Jesus was resurrected. It commemorates crucifixion of Jesus at Calvary, according to Denis D’Sa, administrator of Father Muller Medical College.
Christians gathered at churches and chapels across the district for Good Friday, where the “14 Stations of the Cross” were observed around noon.
They gathered for the liturgical service in the evening. Special prayers were offered for the welfare of society.
The communion rite, that part of the Eucharistic rite in which the consecrated bread and wine are distributed to the congregations, was performed after the veneration of the cross.
D’Sa said people visit churches on Good Friday to meditate. They fast and observe abstinence.
