Mangalore, Mar 22: Plans are afoot to erect nearly 130 additional towers by the Dakshina Kannada Telecom District of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) for its services in DK and Udupi districts. The said plan has in fact been set in motion already at several places for the purpose.
As a result of these towers, vast improvement is expected in the Global System for Mobile (GSM) communications, Code division multiple access (CDMA) and Wireless in Local Loop (WiLL) services.
CDMA and WiLL services have been commissioned at Guthigar in Sullia taluk, informed a press release from the in-charge principal general manager of the Telecom District.
The Telecom district is awaiting equipment needed to commission the GSM services. However, the GSM services could be provided at places where tower erection had been taken up, the release added.
The company would possibly be able to provide GSM services in the two districts where the tower erection work had been taken up. With regard to delays in providing cellular services in hilly areas, the matter would be sorted out soon, informs the release.
