Kasargod: Foundation Stone Laid for ‘Gilivindu Project’ at Manjeshwar

Kasargod, Mar 23: 125th birthday celebration of Rashtra Kavi Manjeshwar Govind Pai, laying of foundation stone for ‘Gilivindu Project’ and presentation of Govind Pai National Award was held at Govind Pai Memorial Hall, at Manjeshwar on Sunday March 23.
Union government and state governments of Kerala and Karnataka have jointly taken the initiative to build a befitting memorial by planning a project called ‘Gilivindu’ at an estimated cost of Rs 2 crore, which will comprise of an open an amphitheater, venue for staging plays, art exhibitions, Yakshagana, library section, preservation of manuscripts, research, comparative studies, archives, guest house for scholars etc.
Dr Veerappa Moily, chairman of union Administrative Reforms Commission inaugurated programme and graced the occasion. M A Baby, Kerala minister for education and culture, laid foundation stone for ‘Gilivindu’ project. C H Kunhambu, MLA of Manjeshwar, presided over the function.
Meanwhile, eminent scholar Dr L Basavaraju was felicitated at the same occasion. I M Vittalmurty, secretary for Karnataka department of Kannada and Culture released the souvenir ‘Nandadivige’ on this occasion.
P Karunakaran, MP of Kerala, Manu Baligar, director of Karnataka department of Kannada and Culture and others were present on this occasion. Literary meet and various cultural programmes were held after the stage programme.
