Mangalore, Mar 24: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chairman Mallikarjun Kharge postponed his visit to the city which was earlier scheduled for Sunday March 23, owing to heavy rains lashing the coastal district for the last few days.
The visit of Mallikarjun Kharge was announced on Saturday March 22, ahead of the visit of youth Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to the city. Kharge had to oversee the security arrangements done for welcoming Rahul Gandhi here. However, thick fog caused by incessant rains in the coastal part of the state has posed problems for landing helicopter by which Kharge was supposed to travel here.
Meanwhile, many low-lying areas in the city submerged in the floods owing to heavy rains. The summer season seems like rainy season in the coastal area. Also, development works like converting the highway into four lanes between Suratkal and B C Road and construction of new airport terminal at Kenjar have been affected owing to heavy shower. The traffic was also affected on national highways because of the clogged-up drains and breakdown of iron ore laden trucks.
