Udupi, Mar 29: Karnataka Administrative Tribunal (KAT) has issued interim stay for the transfer of M B Nagaraj, who has been discharging the duties of deputy superintendent of police from last 7 months in the district.
H D Mendonca, former circle inspector had taken charge as deputy SP when Nagaraj had gone on a short leave, without officially transferring the charge to Mendonca.
M B Nagaraj informed media persons that he has been restrained from discharging his duties by the new deputy SP, as he has been denied access to the department automobile.
The district unit of Dalit Sangarsha Samiti (DSS) condemned the act of the new deputy SP for not cooperating with M B Nagaraj in discharging his duties.
DSS has alleged that M B Nagaraj was an honest police officer who has efficiently discharged his duties impartially related to Dalit atrocity and several such cases, during seven months of his service.
Although M B Nagaraj got the interim stay from KAT on Tuesday March 25, the reigning SP Devjyoti Roy had hurriedly issued orders to H D Mendonca to take charge as deputy SP. Despite M B Nagaraj attending the office as usual, he has been denied access to sensitive files and department automobile.
DSS also cautioned that they would stage a protest if appropriate action is not taken to re-instate M B Nagaraj in his earlier post.
