Udupi, Mar 30: "If the parents take care of their children well, in turn they would very well look after their parents. However, owing to degeneration of families in the west, there lies the bourgeoning population of old age persons wherein birth rate of new born is declining. However, India accounts for 65 percent of youth population which would face steady decline in birth rates within 3 decades. The members of St Vincent De Paul Society, who are over 65 years of age and come from BPL families, should avail the benefits of union government pension plans besides his ministerial fund, said union minister of state for labour, Oscar Fernandes.
Union minister was delivering the presidential address, during the silver jubilee celebrations of St Vincent De Paul Society, located at Kallianpur, on Sunday March 30.
'Ozanam Home' was set up by St Vincent De Paul Society at Kallianpur on December 14, 1982 which provided all the most essential amenities to the old age persons regardless of caste, creed and domicile, lies at the threshold of silver jubilee celebrations.
Bishop Aloysius Paul D'Souza inaugurated the newly built 'Miracle' old age home which was equipped for the comfortable stay of its members.
Fr Baptist Menezes, Fr Valerian D'Souza, Dr Gregory, large number of beneficiaries and well wishers were present at the occasion.
