Riyadh, May 25: Karavali Welfare Association Riyadh (KWAR) held it's long awaited annual mega event 'Karavali Parba' on May 11 at Qasr Al Arab auditorium here.
Chief guest Anil Nautiyal, counsellor (community welfare) at the Indian embassy here, guests of honour Zeenat Zafri, Air India manager Kundan Lal, KWAR president Santhosh Shetty, vice president Muzaffar Ali, general secretary Shashidhar Haridas and former president Rajesh Kumar inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp. Cultural secretary P M Bhaskar, treasurer Nelson D'Souza and other prominent executive committee members were present on the dais.
The programme began after a well prepared delicious dinner was served to all the guests at the venue. This was well coordinated by Muzaffar Ali, Yathiraj Malpe, Salman Noor, Shafi Hussein, G K Sheikh, Umesh Shetty, Prasanna Bhat, Iqbal Shirva, Jayakar Poojary, Jagannath Kotian, Tejraj Shetty and other members. Victor, Ashwath, Nelson and Jagadeesh ushered in the guests proficiently.
P M Bhaskar, Suresh Raj, Mahesh Hegde, Dilip Kumar, Jayakar Poojary and Varun Shetty who managed the cultural team did a splendid job in presenting one of the best entertainment programmes in the history of KWAR.
At the cultural secretary, P M Bhaskar's go ahead the three emcees Nitin Rai Kukkuvalli, Parvez Ali and Nazeer Ahmed took over the centre stage and enthralled the packed audience by their wit and humour.
KWAR president Santhosh Shetty delivered an inaugural speech by warmly welcoming all the guests and the excited audience who were eager to watch the cultural programmes. The president stressed on the need for unity among all the members and was proud to head an organisation which is the only one in the kingdom that has variety and diversity of cultures yet United toward KWAR's cause.
After his inaugural speech the president invited Anil Nautiyal onto the dais and felicitated him with a flower bouquet. In his speech, Nautiyal promised without any prejudice to help all the Indians living in the kingdom and thanked KWAR members for their participation in the Saudi Government's Amnesty programme, for which KWAR volunteers did a great service.
The president thanked Anil Nautiyal for being there to grace the occasion. He then invited Zeenat Zafri, an educationalist of par excellence, former principal of IISR, and recent recipient of Pravaasi Bhartiya Award 2017 from the President of Republic of India Pranab Mukherjee. The felicitation was conducted by Dr Vanishree Santhosh, Lata Rajesh and Lubna Bhanu. Zafri too accompanied his wife on the dais. In her impressive speech, Zafri stressed on her main motto - the need for education to all and promised to help anyone in this direction. She also promised KWAR members her help whenever they need it. She thanked KWAR president and all the executive members for inviting and felicitating her and expressed her desire to be a member of this noble organisation.
In his address to the audience, Air India manager Kundan Lal promised to speed up Riyadh-Mangaluru direct flights issue. He is KWAR's only hope in achieving this mission and anticipate the likelihood before their next anniversary celebration.
The entertainment began with an eye catching fusion dance by Michelle, Elita and Karan which was well directed by Michelle, the teen sensation. It was very well compiled and enacted and met with thunderous applause from the roaring crowd. A mind blowing dance by the KWAR kids got the audience on their feet. It was well choreographed by their favourite Vishnu Vijayan sir, who also directed another dance 'Master's Choice'. This was also well appreciated by the thunderous crowd. Vishnu Vijayan was appreciated for training and nurturing KWAR's upcoming stars.
The message to the masses about the recent Amnesty Programme by the government of Saudi was well narrated through a Tulu play titled 'Paradeshodu Paradata' directed by KWAR's evergreen director P M Bhasker and enacted well by Rajesh Kumar, Nitin Rai Kukkuvalli, Sathish Poojary and supported by other KWAR members. The team comprising of P M Bhaskar, Nitin Rai Kukkuvalli and Sathish Poojary also delivered a message to the audience on the theme 'alcohol consumption is evil of society' through their comedy Tulu play 'Kudukara Adyaksha'. Both the short plays were well appreciated by the Karavali guests.
The audience was well entertained by Shreeja Janardhan, Murali, P M Bhaskar, Ralph Dsouza (Gulf Voice fame), Sony, Rahmat Khan, Yashwanth (from MASA dammam), Roshan (from Jeddah), Nazeer Ahmed, and Rajeev Kamath by their melodious voices and song selections. Eden D'sa mesmerised the crowd with her melodious voice in her fusion
song.
KWAR's man of all seasons, Prasanna Rao, the ever active and backbone of KWAR Parvez Ali and the ever smiling and ready to help for any of KWARs causes Suresh Raj were felicitated by Santhosh Shetty and members of the executive committee, for their immense selfless contribution to KWAR in the last nine years.
The major event of Karavali Parba that kept the audience spellbound was undoubtedly the 45 minute non-stop 'Baarisu Kannada Dindimava', which is a mixture of rich culture and heritage as well as history of Karnataka. This was well presented by Gauji Gammath Group's (G3) great talents and masterfully directed by KWAR's well wisher Nagaraj Bajal. This great show and superlative performance by one and all from the tiny tots to the senior citizens, was appreciated and applauded by all the guests.
For the first time the audience enjoyed entertainment live on a giant LCD screen installed on the live stage, which was a treat to watch and well appreciated by one and all. The evergreen cultural team led by P M Bhaskar deserved to be credited. All the participants were awarded with medals and kids were also presented with gift meal coupons from one of their sponsors McDonalds. A lucky draw was conducted at regular intervals sponsored by Air India, (which was drawn by Air India's Kingsley Fernandes), Jet Airways.
Kundan Lal, BARSA President Santhosh K Shetty, Aangan Konkan's Arun D'Souza, MASA Dammam's Gopal Shetty, Konkan Ghar's Shri Eric Dsa, KWAR Kabaddi captain Suraj Shetty who won the recent tournament in Jeddah, and other prominent personalities were present among the audience.

Muzzamil and Nilan were credited for their special efforts. KWAR also thanked the other donors and individuals who were directly or indirectly part of their event and made it a very special day to remember.
KWAR strives hard for unity and strength as well as the welfare of the people from India/Karnataka and specially from Karavali region which would not have been possible without the support of all the members and their families.
KWAR thanked all the executive members of KWAR committee and their families for working overtime towards the grand success of KWAR’s mega event 'Karavali Parba 2017'.
The programme concluded at around 2.30 am with the recitation of the national anthem.
