Mumbai, May 25: Another robbery on Matsyagandha Express train travelling from Kurla terminal to Mangaluru via Konkan Railway on Monday afternoon May 22 has come to light.
Bhandup west resident Prathima Sathish Karkera had arrived at Kurla terminal to travel to her hometown Surathkal. Harish Poojary who had come to see his sister-in-law Prathima off had her seated in the reserved seat and returned after wishing her a pleasant journey. The train had left Kurla terminal at the scheduled time and Prathima began her journey alone. As the train reached Vidyavihar junction a few minutes later, a youth suddenly entered and snatched the bag which was securely held by Prathima, jumped off the train and fled.
Recently purchased gold Kariamani weighing 70 grams, Bendole weighing 10 grams, cash of Rs 7,000, an amount of Rs 5,000 given to her by her friend to hand over to her home members and her mobile were the contents in her handbag.
Prathima with the help of her co-passengers, the Rao family immediately informed about the incident to her husband Sathish Karkera and Harish Poojary. Even though the train was stopped by tugging at the chain as it approached Ghatkopar station, it was futile. Prathima got off the train as it reached Thane railway station and complained to the GRP police. The GRP railway inspector Ashok Borade received the complaint, registered a case and is investigating the case.
