Udupi: Protests launched against former MLA Raghupati Bhat

Udupi, Apr 6:
Former MLA Raghupati Bhat faced the brunt of protests by progressive organizations of the city which was staged in front of the taluk office here on Saturday, April 5.

The immediate cause for launching of this protest by the progressive bodies being Raghupati Bhat's provocative  remarks made against journalist Sriram Divana in a public speech here recently. This ired the members of the said organizations,  who then resorted to protests to put across their disapproval of Bhat's provocative statements.



Another speaker G Rajashekhar of Komu Souharda Vedike in his speech demanded that a criminal case be registered against Raghupati Bhat and that he be banned from contesting the next MLA election. Later a memorandum enlisting their grievance was submitted to the tahshildar.

The protesting organizations included the Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (DSS), Progressive Journalists’ Organization (PJO), District Thinkers’ Forum (DTF), Karnataka Forum for Dignity (KFD) among others participated in the protest.
