Karkala: Leopard attack - Man injured while trying to save cow

Karkala, May 31: In an incident which happened in the early hours of Wednesday May 31 at Mallibettu in Ninjoor village in the taluk, a leopard attacked a cow as well as a man who tried to save the cow.

In this incident, Valerian D'Souza (53) suffered grievous injuries. After giving preliminary treatment at the government hospital at Ajjarkad Udupi, Valerian was admitted into KMC Hospital Manipal for advanced treatment.

It is said that the leopard, which was hiding in the attic of the cattle shed belonging to Appi Poojarthi, leaped on a cow belonging to her at daybreak and tried to eat it.

Officials from forest department went to the spot and took away the leopard which was also injured.

    Please start schools for these leopards and other animals attacking GOMATHA. teach them cow is holy not to kill and eat. Now I understood where are those missing cows, either eaten by leopard or exported from Gujarat seaport . Leopard also know cow is an animal. Unfortunately human doesn't know it is a animal. Instead they are telling cow is God. OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Good a man showed some courage and tried to save the cow.Un fortunately he is now seriously (?) got injured.Wish him fast recovery.Better in future not to take up the battle with these wild animals when they have already attached and started eating.Tiger and leopards are not pets and like dogs they will attack utmost and kill anyone who is nearby and with weapons are.Acow can be bought but not a person .True it is sad and very costly,a cow to poose.There are too many leopards around now in forests let by forest dept.,but they dont have enough animals to hunt,so they come in where people live.They dont understand our logic.Forest dept.must see that some deers or wild pigs can be set to hunt.so that these animals dont come in civilized area.(there is again problem from our civilized ones hunt again deers or pigs as fun )

    Good question! God couldn't save itself. So a human by the name Valerian D'Souza went to save God. during this process all 3 got injured. Now injured human is admitted to a hospital. God is under human mercy, and leopard forest officials will take care. I was surprised to see that you asked only about leopard. neither about God or a human who saved God. Amazing !!!!!!!

    poor leopard should have read news paper or watched arnabs republic channel ..then it would have attacked valerian and spared the cow and would be hailed as a hero by people like jaimini ...alas being a wild animal it had no choice but to hunt for food and attacked a cow ...we need to educate animals now coz animals have greater power than humans in bhaktland

    Keep emotions and religions aside. Sad thing is the leopard had to suffer under humans. When will we stop destructing forest. It has to feed itself to survive. We can't blame the leopard. It has it's own natural instinct and that is to hunt to survive. When we destroy it's natural habitat, what choice does the leopard have?
    By saying this, doesn't mean D'Souza was at fault. But we do have to blame ourselves for this incident.

    What goes around comes around. Your leaders mock and interfere on others religions in the name of protecting women, deciding their food habits and to appease certain majority sections. But when made fun of your practices, you open up. Respect others if you need respect.
