Bantwal, Jun 13: A man was attacked by a gang at Muguli in Karopady village on Karnataka's border with Kerala on Monday June 12. Soon, sympathizers of the victim of the assault brandished weapons at Kanyana town , giving rise to an environment of fear. As a result, shops and establishments in Kanyana downed their shutters.

Neklaje Muhammed Haneef was the target of the said attack. He stands admitted into a private hospital at Puttur, having suffered grievous injuries. Reportedly, Martanadi Dinesh and his accomplices had launched this attack. The attackers were said to have become angry after finding that Haneef was negotiating a deal for the sale of a cow at Muguli bus stand. Dinesh fled from the scene after the attack, and members of his gang were found seated in motor bikes. After they came to know about the attack, over ten members of the opposite gang rushed to the spot and attacked those seated on two-wheelers, it is gathered. Some of them suffered injuries and got admitted into different hospitals.

On this occasion, a number of people gathered at Kanyana downtown, flashed lethal weapons, and forced shops and establishments to close down, it is said. Eyewitnesses explained that the gang members threw and shattered soda bottles and glasses found in the shops onto the roads and were found dancing in an odd manner.

Police personnel visited the spot and brought the situation under control. Additional forces have been deployed to keep the things under check. Some unclaimed motor bikes which were found parked by the roadside were taken away by the police. More information is awaited.
