Mangaluru: 'Sophiya' Konkani film celebrates 50 days of success in meaningful way

Mangaluru, Jun 30: Coastalwood's first female film producer Janet Noronha's Konkani film 'Sophiya' successfully completed its 50th day of box office run at Prabath theatre here on Friday, June 30.

The cast and crew celebrated the milestone at the theatre in a meaningful way with the children from Prashanthi Nivas run by Infant Mary Convent, Jeppu. Fr Richard Coelho, director of Fr Muller Charitable Institutions and Walter Nandalike, founder of Daijiworld graced the occasion as chief guests.

Speaking on the occasion, Fr Richard said, "This film has created history in Konkani film industry. The success of the movie shows the concern of Konkani speaking people towards their mother tongue. The credit goes to the entire Konkani community along with the movie team. I congratulate the producer and the entire team who worked for this movie."

Walter Nandalike said, "This is the reward for the hardwork of the cast and crew. They have achieved this milestone due to their dedication and commitment. These achievements will inspire producers to take up new projects. I congratulate the producer and the entire cast for their success."

Actress Ester Noronha spoke on the occasion and thanked the audience, director, cast and crew, and media for their support. Producer Janet Noronha who welcomed the guests, expressed happiness on the rare achievement in the Konkani movie industry.

The cast and crew of the film were felicitated by the guests with mementos. Fr Charls Noronha, Sr Silvia, superior of Infant Mary Convent, actors Elton, Stany Alvares, Richard Sequeira, Floyd D'Mello, Maria Joythi, Rita Fernandes and Flavia Kalakul were present.

After its successful release in the district, the production house has already announced the film's UK and Israel release dates.

Harry Fernandes directorial family entertainer 'Sophiya' released on May 12 has emerged as the biggest Konkani opener at the Box Office. In fact, the movie went on to collect a massive collection on its opening week to become the first ever Konkani film to do so.

'Sophiya' starred choreographer turned actor Elton Mascarenhas along with Ester Noronha. Apart from remarkable acting from all artistes, the film has been praised for Harry's direction and Shafiq Sheik's cinematography.


Premiers in UK, Israel and Goa

'Sophiya' will be screened in Israel on July 8 and UK on July 9. The grand premier of the film in Goa will be held on July 17 at Ravindra Bhavan, Madgaon at 7:30 pm.

Beside Madgaon, there will be shows in Panjim and Vasco also. The release dates of the film in Mumbai will be finalised in between August and September.
