No religious angle linked to lynchings: Venkaiah Naidu

New Delhi, Jun 30 (PTI): Union minister M Venkaiah Naidu today dubbed incidents of lynchings in the country as "barbaric" and said they should not be seen from a religious angle.

Law enforcement agencies at the district and the state level must take effective steps to prevent such incidents in future, the minister said, a day after a man was killed in Jharkhand for allegedly transporting beef.

"It has been condemned by and one all. The prime minister also, for the second time, spoke about it. It is happening in different parts of the country and it is barbaric and atrocious. No religious angle is linked to it," he told reporters here.

The latest incident of lynching has been reported from Ramgarh in Jharkhand where the victim, identified as Alimuddin Asghar, was intercepted by a mob on suspicion of transporting beef in his van.

Asghar's lynching yesterday came even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned acts of violence in the name of cow vigilantism. Addressing a gathering at Sabarmati Ashram, Modi had said that "killing people in the name of ‘gaubhakti’ (cow worship) is not acceptable. This is not something Mahatma Gandhi would approve."

As every law abiding individual is watching with trepidation how “cow terror” is spreading throughout the country – from Dadri to Latehar, from Una to Alwar and from Jammu to now the capital – with custodians of law and order turning mute spectators and “.. human slaughter in the name of the bovine” is becoming “tragically the new normal in India.
Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu that he was a non-vegetarian but he preferred to eat only what was allowed by Indian constitution. The Information and Broadcasting minister, according to PTI, was responding to a query regarding a BJP nominee for the upcoming by-election in Malappuram in Kerala reportedly promising supply of good beef from clean slaughterhouses in his constituency, if elected.
In India there is a deeply rooted tradition of respect for food – it stresses the importance of growing and sharing food. Sharing or offering food is a universal tradition shared by all religious entities that have roots in the Indian soil.
Accordingly, in 1950, India adopted a very progressive Constitution aimed at ensuring all its citizens social, economic and political justice, equality, and dignity. Therefore any law to be valid in Indian Territory must be within the constitutional framework. Like in many countries of the World the “The Right to Food” in Indian Constitution is not recognized as a “Fundamental Right”. Therefore, there is no constitutional mandate to have a claim over it.
Article 47: Duty of the State to raise the level of nutrition and the standard of living and to improve public health.
Indian Constitution Part III, Article 21-“Protection of life and personal liberty – No person shall be deprived of his life or personal liberty except to procedure established by law.”
When Hindu holy scripture talk about beef eating why BJP ruled state ban the consumption and exports regularised?
When 56 inch Modi asked to kill himself Naidu is defending the killing? There is huge gap between action and talks.

A true Hindu religion will never allow lynching in any form but your version of Hindu religion there is no restriction. You said you are a non vegetarian but did you clarify that you eat beef. Stop fooling people and mincing with words.

    Shame on you minister.
BJP government under Vajapayee was much different. We did not see things like this. Unfortunately BJP under Modi we see only fights and lynching everywhere. Earlier goondaraj was limited to only states like UP and Bihar. But nowadays under Modi rule , goondas have got freedom everywhere in India. We are only seeing hatred everywhere among each other. This is really sad. This government instead of supporting farmers and farmers who are into dairy business, they are just behind cow. Certainly BJP will not come to power in 2019. That is for sure. Fed up with this daily news of lynching and cow news. Most of these so called cow protectors do not have any knowledge or experience in agriculture or dairy farming.

    We have no common enemy...
    Our history is vast...
Tussles big and small have happened time and again...
But we have always stood together as a nation...
God willing , even this issue will be resolved or sidelined...
Let all Indians work together to achieve peace among them...
I still remember the years 1970s and part of 1980s...
    Golden times must come again...
