Udupi, Apr 20: A BJP party workers’ convention was organized here on Friday April 18, where former vice-president of Udupi Town Municipal Council and Samajwadi Party leader B. Sudhakar Shetty joined the BJP in the presence of its national general secretary H N Ananth Kumar.
Speaking to a large gathering on the occasion Ananth Kumar condemning the government at the Centre, stated that inflation under the Congress-led UPA government had touched an all time high. For this, he squarely blamed the wrong economic policies of the Congress saying that it was responsible for the increase in the prices of essential commodities as it failed to check price rise.
Further, he alleged that the Centre had not released funds for repair of national highways in the State. He made a pointed reference to the pathetic condition of the Bangalore-Mangalore highway and the NH 17 passing through Udupi district, despite the department being headed by K.H. Muniappa, who was from Karnataka.
According to him even Union Minister of State for Labour Oscar Fernandes, AICC spokesperson M. Veerappa Moily, and Rajya Sabha MP Janardhan Poojari, despite all being from coastal districts were still not putting in any efforts to get funds for carrying out the repairs of these highways.
Further more Ananth Kumar opined that all these leaders were not able to give Kannada the classical language status. Terrorist attacks have shown an upswing during the UPA rule for which the Centre is to blame for its wrong policies, he alleged.
Continuing his tirade against the Congress, he said that the party was in total disarray in the State. So much so that did till date they have not even announced their list of candidates, neither were they able to project a candidate for the post of the chief minister. According to him this was because Congress leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge, Siddaramaiah, S.M. Krishna and Dharam Singh wanted to get ticket for their followers.
On the occasion were present BJP leaders like Raghupati Bhat, Lalaji Mendan, Halady Srinivas Shetty, V.S. Acharya, Kota Srinivas Poojary and others.
