Bangalore, Apr 21: In a change from its stand, the Congress on Sunday announced that cine star and Mandya MP Ambarish would contest from Shrirangapatna assembly constituency in the coming polls in Karnataka.
"I have been asked to contest from Shrirangapatna. I will file my nomination on April 23," Ambarish told PTI over telephone.
In the list of 84 candidates announced on Saturday, the Congress had cleared the name of Ravindra Srikantaiah, son of former MLA Parvathamma Srikantaiah. However, a change was affected within 24 hours.
The announcement evoked resentment among party workers here, some of whom protested in front of the Karnataka Pradesh office on Sunday.
Meanwhile, L R Shivarame Gowda, a strong aspirant from Nagamangala in Mandya, who was denied a ticket, has threatened to revolt. Sources close to the leader said that he planned to knock at the doors of other parties.
