Panaji, Apr 22: A Kerala ex-convict wanted by Karnataka police to undergo two years rigorous imprisonment was arrested in south Goa's Colva beach on Monday April 21.

Police arrested Fiju Chackoo, 35, convicted by Bangalore High Court and was missing from his hometown of Kottiyoor district in Kerala.

Chackoo, who is currently with Colva police, has already served a sentence of two years for trespassing and stealing valuables from the temple from his home town while he is sentenced for two years rigorous imprisonment for possessing hand bombs.

"He was found loitering in the beach area and we have seized several documents from his possession," police inspector Edwin Colaco stated.

Colaco had taken Chackoo into custody on suspicion and has contacted Karnataka police for further action.

Chackoo was arrested for the first time in 1997 when he along with others was intercepted in a jeep at Gulme check post in Karwar district of Karnataka. They were found in possession of three hand-made bombs, knife and iron rods.

The accused were acquitted by lower court but Bangalore High Court convicted them for two years rigorous imprisonment on March 3, 2006. Since then, Chackoo was missing.

In the meantime, in October 29, 2003 Chackoo trespassed into Shree Narayan Guru Mandiram at his hometown at Mandhamcherry in Kottiyoor district of Kerala.

Kannur crime branch had arrested him and was later sentenced for two years rigorous imprisonment by judicial magistrate first class, Kuthuparamba.

Goa police are verifying whether  Chackoo was involved in any offence in Goa. "We are interrogating him and we may find him involved in some property offences here," colaco said.

Interestingly, police investigations have revealed that Chackoo was going around in plane and is also booked by Kerala police for illegal transportation of wood in December 2007.
