Mangaluru: 11-year-old Fiona D’Almeida dies after bus hits her cycle at Suratkal

Daijiworld Media Network- Mangaluru (RJP)

Mangaluru, Jul 6: A young girl lost her life as the consequence of an accident that took place on Wednesday, July 5 at Suratkal near here.

Fiona Gracia D’Almeida (11), daughter of Stany and Flavia D'Almeida, is the deceased.

It is gathered that Fiona was riding a bicycle on a hillock by the side of the road at Honnakatte on Wednesday morning. At one point, she lost control of the bicycle and entered the highway. A city bus which was moving on the road at that time hit the girl.

Some auto rickshaw drivers immediately rushed Fiona to a private hospital in Suratkal. After necessary treatment, she was sent to a hospital in city. Due to the heavy bleeding, Fiona suffered low blood pressure and slipped into a coma subsequently. Later in the evening she breathed her last.

Every cycle rider (especially minors) have to wear protective gear to the head.
If the rider falls to the ground, common cause of death is head injury. Schools and parents have a responsibility in creating awareness and avoid these tragedy.

We need to force the authorities to bring this cycle helmet. Rule for every cycle rider. If any one is seen without this riding a cycle , their parents have to be fined 3000 . The cycle helmets are available online as well as in some outlets.

Even before the girl is respectfully cremated, the bus will be freed, the driver will be freed, and the same bus & driver will be again drive rashly just to keep time & make money. The brake inspection will be done from the office itself within minutes....shame on our system.

It is indeed very sad news. A young and promising life was ebbed out at the hands of rude and rash City bus drivers of MANGALORE. To ensure that they don't get delayed and miss their trip in the bargain, they go to any extent. My heart goes to young and Fiona and her family members. May God Grant eternal rest to Fiona in his Paradise and all the strength to her parents to bear with the irreparable loss

My earnest request to all parents - please do not allow small children to ride their bicycles or bikes on the roads. Indian roads are among the most dangerous in the world and when you know very well the mind set of our people, why take a chance and put your family to this agony. In our country there are no rules and regulations to govern anybody on the roads. Even if the rules are framed, they are never followed. We all know how the system works here. It is much much better to play safe.

Even without having met this child, I feel sad. How much more will the parents and family members feel on the loss of their young one. Fiona's grandmother, who lives in Kulai, had cured me of my Herpis ( sarpa suttu) over 30 years ago, with her effective country medicines. So sad that that this lovely Dalmeida family is now drowned in sorrow. Dear Fr Francis Almedia, Stany, Flavia and the entire Almedia family, we are parying for strength so you can bear this tragic loss. Fiona is an angel in heaven.
