Puttur, Jul 8: After a tree standing at Yermal near Kunthoor on Uppinangady-Kadaba state highway suddenly got uprooted, it fell on a motor bike that was moving. In this incident which happened on Friday July 7, Balakrishna Gowda from Ulipu in Kutruppady village, who was riding the motor bike, suffered serious injuries.

Gowda, an ex-serviceman, was going to Hosmath from Uppinangady in his motor bike when a huge tree standing by the roadside, unable to withstand strong wind and heavy rain, fell across the road. Injured Gowda was rushed to hospital by some locals. The bike was badly damaged in this incident. The tree was thereafter cleared by locals, paving way for resumption of traffic.

It is gathered that a number of trees are standing precariously on the stretch between Uppinangady and Mardhala on Uppinangady-Subrahmanya state highway, as the earth was dug during the widening of the road on this stretch, exposing several trees to the danger of falling down anytime. The people have urged the authorities to identify trees facing danger and clear them immediately. Forester, Bharatesh, visited the spot and said that a report has been sent to higher officers, recommending to clear 13 roadside trees.
