Hike in Mediclaim Grant for Children with Birth Defects

Panaji, Apr 25: Minister for health Vishwajeet Rane has said that the government has  plans to hike the financial assistance under  Mediclaim  Scheme to Rs 8 lac  to treat children  with birth defects.  He said, the  hike will help the needy and poor parents to meet the huge expenses on treatment of their children with birth defects.

The health minister who visited Community Health Centres located at Canacona, Balli, Quepem and Curchorem on Thursday April 24 to acquaint himself about the functioning of these hospitals which cater to the health care needs of rural populace said that all efforts will be made to provide adequate  better medical facilities to the people.  In this  context, he said, ten mobile  ambulance vans  will be procured by  June this year  to press them into service in remote areas. However, this exercise will be on trial basis he said.

The health minister was accompanied  by Chandrakant Kavlekar, MLA and chairman of IDC and Dr Rajnanda Dessai, director of health services.

Speaking further at Primary Health Centre, Balli  where he inaugurated a Designated Microscopic Centre to diagnose tuberculosis  Rane assured to provide  ultra-sound facility and blood testing equipments  at PHC, Balli.  He also assured to provide required medial staff and asked the hospital visiting committee to come  out with suggestions for the effective functioning of health centres.

During  his visit to community health Centre, Canacona, Rane directed the health authorities to put AC in the dialysis and dental care unit  and to construct boundary walls wherever required at the Health Centres.

Chandrakant Kavlekar, MLA said government has already initiated steps for upgradation of PHC,Balli.
