Mangalore: Ten Candidates File Nominations in District

Mangalore Apr 26: On the fourth day of filing nomination for the forthcoming election assembly, 10 candidates in Dakshina Kannada district and 4 candidates in Udupi district filed nominations in their respective constituencies.

In Dakshina Kannada eight candidates of BJP, one from CPM and one from Congress filed nominations.

Former MLAs N Yogish Bhat for Mangalore South, Krishna J Palemar for Mangalore North, Nagaraj Shetty for Bantwal, K P Jagadish in Moodbidri, Mallika Prasad in Puttur, S Angara in Sullia and K Prabhakara Bangera for Beltangady filed their nomination papers in their respective constituencies.

CPI (M) candidate Yadav Shetty filed his paper in Mangalore constituency.

In Udupi district’s constituencies four candidates filed their nominations on Friday. At present in the district’s 5 assembly constituencies total 7 candidates have filed their nominations. Congress candidate and former MLA Jayaprakash Hegde filed his nomination paper in Kundapur constituency, former MLA of Congress K Gopala Poojari from Byndoor, CPI (M) Dasa Bhandari also filed paper in the same constituency and former BJP MLA Lalaji R Mendon filed his paper in Kaup constituency.

Udupi district election officer P Hemalata informed that April 29 is the last date for filing nominations.

Sources said that Congress candidates Pramod Madhwaraj from Udupi and Vasanth Salian from Kaup, independent candidate Nagesh Rao, JD(S) Leeladhar Shetty, former MLA of BJP candidate from Karkala Sunil Kumar and others are expected to file their nomination on Monday April 28.
