Puttur: Posing life threat to quarry owner - five accused arrested

Puttur, Jul 15: The local police arrested five persons on the night of Thursday July 13. They have been accused of illegally entering a stone quarry owned by Suresh Kamath at Kabaka in the outskirts of the town, placing demand for payment of protection money, and posing life threat to the people there.

The arrested accused happen to be Nooruddin, Abdul Irshad, Abubakker Siddique, Illyas and Abul Samad. The main operative of the gang's activities, Badruddin, has gone missing.

After getting information that the accused were trying to flee to Bengaluru by train, police went to the local railway station and arrested them on Thursday night. On being produced in the court, all of them were remanded to judicial custody.

As per the complaint, the accused had gatecrashed into the said quarry on Thursday afternoon and asked the concerned to stop work inside the quarry. Owner of the quarry said in his complaint that when the diktat of the gang was questioned, its members demanded payment of two lac rupees failing which they posed threat to the owner's life.
