Mumbai, Jul 24: A passenger used a new technique to smuggle gold from Dubai to India. He turned gold into wires first, coated them with copper and carried when he flew on Saturday, July 22. But he was intercepted and arrested at Mumbai airport.
Kandathil Mohamed Rafi (26) is the person arrested .
Rafi arrived by an Indigo Airlines flight from Dubai. The search of his checked-in-baggage resulted in the recovery of copper colour coated gold wires. The wires weighing 587 grams are valued at Rs 17.32 lac.
The wires looked like embroidery panel of fabrics.
Rafi is a native of Kasargod in Kerala and works as salesman in Dubai.
