Sharjah: Ten Masked Swordsmen Arrested

Sharjah, May 3: Sharjah Police have arrested a gang of ten masked men who terrorised residents in the emirate by assaulting them with knives and swords. “This is a group of youths fighting each other. We are still investigating the reasons behind the attacks,” a police spokesman told 7DAYS. According to reports, one incident saw a young Emirati man attacked by the gang after they set a trap for him near his house - assaulting him with knives and swords and causing extensive head wounds which needed surgery.

In another, more recent incident, an eyewitness told the police that he saw three masked men entering a shop and assaulting the owner, stealing dhs1,000 and his mobile phone. The gang are also reported to have set fire to the car of an Emirati man who refused to halt legal proceedings against them. After the men broke into the victim’s house in the Qadisiya area of Sharjah, the owner made a complaint to police, after which his car was set alight.
