Mangaluru, Jul 29: Considering the growing incidents of drugs trafficking and cyber crimes in the region, the city will soon get two new police stations. These two stations will be equipped to handle cyber crime cases and drug trafficking incidents efficiently.

The state government had issued instructions to set up new police stations here through a notification issued on June 2 this year. Steps are under way to open these police stations, one of which will be handling economic and drug cases and the other exclusively will tackle cases relating to cyber crimes. As per information, inspector, Pavitra Teja, has been chosen to head the cyber crime police station, while Muhammed Shariff has been picked as station house officer of economic and drug offences police station.

The police station for economic and drug offences will handle cases of crimes relating to drugs as well as economic offences exceeding Rs 25 lac relating to lottery, excise, organized crimes, cheating, fake notes, human trafficking, cheating in cooperative societies, acid attack etc. City cyber crime station will handle complaints in connection with social websites like WhatsApp and Facebook, Internet frauds etc. The police station for economic and drugs offences will be located in the second floor of city (south) police station,contact numbers being 0824-2220594, 9620298444. City police commissioner, T R Suresh, said that police officers including station house officers plan to underttake an awareness drive in schools and colleges within the city police commissionerate by visiting respective institutions and addressing students as cyber and drugs crime mostly relate to youngsters.
