Udupi, Aug 3: Adani owned UPCL, which is operating power plant in Yellur village, handed over the confirmatory letter of CSR grant of Rs 1.55 crore to Mudarangadi gram panchayat on Wednesday, August 2, for executing the village developments works under CSR in the villages of Mudarangadi Panchayat for the financial year 2017-18.
David D’Souza, president of Mudarangadi gram panchayat and UPCL’s joint president Kishore Alva mutually exchanged the action plan and the letter of grant in the premises of Mudarangadi gram panchayat. The action plan contained the list of development works to be carried out in the villages of Belapu gram panchayat.
Handing over the confirmatory letter to panchayat, Kishore Alva informed that Adani UPCL is committed for the development of basic infrastructures in the surrounding villages and accordingly a special grant of Rs 22.73 crore has been declared and earmarked for village development works for a period of 3 years in the villages falling under the seven gram panchayats surrounding the UPCL plant. Adani UPCL is executing works based on the works identified by the respective panchayats. He further told that Mudarangadi gram panchayat has been declared a total grant of Rs 4.65 crore for three years and during the financial year 2016-17, the development works worth Rs 1.75 crore has been executed by the Adani UPCL and the majority of works involved concreting of roads Santuru-Aalubrahmasthaana; Santuru-Hoige Maaru road; Pilar–Mitabettu road; Santuru–Bharani road; Kadibetlu road, Posarma road, Kunjigudde road, Santuru–Paradi road; Santuru–Mudadi road, Velankini road in addition to the establishment of safe drinking water unit and erection of dustbins for waste disposal.
The action plan for the year 2017-18 submitted by Mudarangadi gram panchayat contained the list of development works worth Rs 1.55 crore and Alva, receiving the representation, informed that soon these development works would be taken-up for execution. The list involved construction of welcome arch for Subramanya Temple in Santuru; construction of compound wall for the premises of Brahmasthaana; developing to Garadi road; developments to Mahalingeshwara temple road, developing to Infant Jesus Church road; construction of compound wall for Infant Jesus Church; developing Jangama road in Pilar village, developing Kunjigudde SC colony road; developing Kaapikaadu road in Santuru.
Alva further told that in addition to the developments of basic infrastructure facilities in rural areas, Adani UPCL is executing social development works in the field of Education, Health, Sports & Culture and Environment. Under Health Initiative, UPCL in hands with Adani Foundation has covered health insurance to 12,000 villagers of Yellur and Mudarangadi and it is extended to the balance of villagers residing in Mudarangadi village. The Adani Health Insurance facilitates villagers availing cashless treatment in the hospitals. He also informed that a cement grinding unit would be set-up in the premises of UPCL plant for the utilization of fly ash and the cement unit provides employment opportunities to the locals.
Thanking Adani UPCL, David D’Souza welcomed the CSR initiatives of the company in the surrounding villages and he confirmed handing over of the land in the limits of Mudarangadi to UPCL for the purpose of social afforestation, as requested by the company.
