Mangaluru, Aug 9: Padmanabha Acharya (79), resident of Krishnapura, was killed after a vehicle knocked him down with force when he was crossing the road. The accident happened at Hosabettu near Suratkal on Tuesday August 7.
Acharya had attended a religious programme organized at Raghavendra Math at Hosabettu on Tuesday. In the afternoon, he was crossing the road to return home, when a vehicle that was moving towards the city hit him. Acharya suffered serious injuries to his head and back. Although he was immediately taken to a hospital, the doctors declared him brought dead.
The pick-up truck and its driver, Sadiq, have been taken into custody by the police. A case about the accident stands registered in the city (north) traffic police station at Suratkal.
