Moodbidri, May 16: Murkothpalke chapel of Paladka parish was handed over to the Redemptorist priests, Alangar for the pastoral care here recently.

Monsignor Edwin C Pinto, director of Rosary institutions, Alangar presided over the Eucharist, while Fr Norbert Lobo and Fr Eugene D’Silva, CSSR concelebrated. At the beginning of the Mass,
Msg Edwin Pinto read out and explained to the faithful the letter of Aloysius Paul D'Souza, bishop of Mangalore to Fr Eugene D'Silva, the Superior of the Redemptorist Fathers at Alangar.

According to the bishop's decision, the chapel has been made an ‘independent station' under the care of the Redemptorist fathers, who will from now on attend to all the pastoral needs of the faithful including conducting of baptisms, marriages, and funerals. The chapel will be made into a separate parish later when the canonical process gets completed.

Palke chapel is situated eight km away from Moodbidri town and five km away from Paladka church. The chapel, dedicated to St Francis Xavier, it was established on December 3, 1991 by Fr Mathias Pereira. There are 50 families belonging to the chapel.
