Bank employees strike work in Himachal


Shimla, Aug 22 (IANS): Nationalised banks were closed in almost all towns of Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday as employees joined the nationwide day-long strike to protest against the proposed reforms in the banking sector.

However, there was no report of traffic being held up and violence anywhere owing to the strike, police said.

"The shutdown was complete across the state," union leader Prem Verma told IANS here.

The impact of the strike was greaer in state capital Shimla and in the Baddi Barotiwala Nalagarh industrial area in Solan district.

There was also a complete shutdown in Solan, Dharamsala, Kangra, Palampur, Mandi, Rampur, Kullu, Manali, Una and Hamirpur towns.
