Kolkata: P C Sorcar to Turn Ubiquitous Sorcerer

Kolkata, May 20: The conjurer who made the Taj Mahal, the Victoria Memorial Hall and the Amritsar express with its passengers vanish before the very eyes of his audience, not to mention cycling blind-folded in New York, will shortly turn ubiquitous.

“Just imagine as the curtain goes up you will see one P C Sorcar greeting you and another P C Sorcar entering the stage to aid the first in readying props. Next moment you see another P C Sorcar pouring water in an endless stream from a pitcher even as the two other look-alikes continue their business,” P C Sorcar (Junior) says.

The Sorcerer Sorcars may be as many as five or six, with one walking up the aisle and yet another sitting in the audience,” he told PTI from Tripura where he is currently holding shows.

It is like imagining a Shah Rukh Khan livening up the proceedings from the fence during a nail-biting IPL humdinger, while his clone sends Shane Warne all over the ground in the very opening over.

How is it done? It is a three-dimension virtual reality with power point presentation in a special auditorium, was all that Sorcar was willing to disclose.

He says the idea came to him from namesakes who held shows with out his knowledge cashing in on his famous legacy bequeathed by father P C Sorcar (Sr) who died at Hokaidi in Japan while performing in 1971 and he had to step in.

“If I can’t prevent people from using the P C Sorcar brand name, I felt I could do something that will enable people to see many P C Sorcars at once,” he says.

I had the pleasure of witnessing P.C. Sorcar (senior) performing at one of the theaters in Calcutta way back in the early sixties. He kept the audience thrilled. While he was performing on the stage we saw an identical Sorcar coming down the aisle. It almost appeared like bilocation. I am glad that the the son is keeping up the tradition. It would be good for Junior Sorcar to open a college for training people in the science of magic. Joe Gonsalves
