Puttur May 20: While district administration is yet to take steps to curb Chikungunya which has become a menace in some of the border taluks of Dakshina Kannada, fatal rat fever has shown its ugly face in the taluk. Medical authorities have confirmed that already a person has died owing to rat fever.
Ramanath, a resident of Ramakunja is the one who died owing to rat fever. He was suffering from high fever and unbearable joint pain. Accordingly he was admitted to hospital here. However, he failed to respond to medication and breathed his last on Monday May 19.
Meanwhile the doctors who treated Ramanath during his illness have now confirmed that he was suffering from rat fever. This news has shocked the locals here since there are already many persons who are suffering from fever which has been diagnosed properly. Moreover, these border taluks have always been neglected by medical authorities and there has been very irregular supply of medicine to the PHCs of the area.
