Mangaluru, Aug 24: On account of Neermarga parish golden jubilee, inter-parish football and lagori tournaments were organized by St Joseph the Worker Church, ICYM Neermarga on Sunday August 20 at Neermarga Church Ground.

Fr Anil D’Mello director, ICYM Neermarga unit formally inaugurated the tournament and began it with a short prayer service led by the parish priest Fr Anil D’Mello. Sr Neetha Alva, superior of Holy Cross Convent, Neermarga inaugurated the lagori tournament. Prakash Pereira, vice-president of the Parish Pastoral Parishad encouraged the participants to play the game in an organized manner. Nithesh Rebello compered the inaugural programme. Elroy Saldanha, president of the city ICYM diocese, Br Stany, Sujith Sequeira and Sunil Pereira, animators of ICYM Neermarga unit were also present at the inaugural.

As many as 45 teams participated zealously in the football and lagori tournaments. A crowd of over 1500 visited the venue.

Council members of the city's ICYM diocese and city deanery also visited the tournament.

At the valedictory ceremony, Fr Anil D’Mello, parish priest of Neermarga, Fr Ronald D’Souza, director of ICYM Mangaluru diocese, Prakash Pereira, vice-president of Parish Pastoral Parishad, Elroy Saldanha, president of ICYM Mangaluru diocese, Joel Concesso, secretary of ICYM Mangaluru diocese, Raison Ferrao, president of ICYM city deanery were also present. Fr Ronald D’Souza congragulated ICYM unit of Neermarga for successfully organizing the football and lagori tournament. He also congratulated all the participants and the ever enthusiastic ICYM members who put in their efforts to make the event successful.

The football trophy was won by Milagres unit who beat Valencia unit in the finals and the lagori trophy was won by Vamanjoor unit who beat Derebail unit in the finals.

Menal Pereira compered the valedictory programme. Jyothi Lasrado thanked the sponsors and all those who helped to make the football and lagori tournaments a huge success.
