Jubail: Indian Social Forum hosts Independence Day programme

Media Release

Jubail, Aug 25: Commemorating India’s 71st Independence, Indian Social Forum, Karnataka State Committee held an Independence Day programme for NRI Indians recently at Jubail Cookxon Restaurant.

Speaking here, Nazeer Thumbe, executive member of the forum said that people from all religions and walks of life be it workers, women, students, writers, dalits and minorities have sacrificed their lives for the freedom struggle. It is unfortunate that in independent India, minorities, dalits, women, writers and students are still fighting for the freedom to live, freedom to eat and freedom to speak. It is due to this, the general public is still confused as to who has received freedom in India.

In his presidential speech, Arif Jokatte, president of Indian Social Forum, Karnataka State Committee said that patriotism is not loving one's government. Raising one's voice against anti-people policies and fighting for social justice is the real meaning of patriotism. It is the responsibility of each Indian to actively participate in all its developments.

The guests present on the dais were Athaullah Uchila president of Indian Fraternity Forum eastern province, Ibrahim Venoor vice president of Indian Social Forum Jubail.

On account of India's Independence Day, a sports meets with a variety of games was held at Jubail for its members. Prizes were distributed to the winners on the occasion. Ashraf Kukkaje, state general secretary of Indian Social Forum welcomed the guests and delivered the introductory speech. Jubail vice president Ibrahim Venoor delivered the vote of thanks. Mohammad Samath Jubail Social Forum branch committee member coordinated the programme.

The programme was initiated by a unity song 'Saare Jahan Se Achha' and concluded with the National Anthem. Sweets and refreshments were served among the NRI Indians present.

Indians in the Middle East, especially in Saudi Arabia have an important role to play. Saudi Arabia and the Gulf countries regard Indians residing in the Gulf are a precious asset because they work hard, they are honest and they are also patriotic. The definition of patriotism outside India is depended solely on each one of us. By showing to our host country how patriotic we are, regardless what religious background we hail from, it is good for our survival because they trust us immensely and they will continue to solicit our presence and entrust upon us greater responsibilities in the future.

As Indian citizens, regardless of all our individual grievances, we have to show to everyone how proud we are as Indians, and how can we recommend positive suggestions to our Government. That is what the value of Indian citizenship is all about. Once we complete our assignment in the Middle East, which is most likely for every Asian, we all have to go home and settle down peacefully and happily after all the days of hard work in the Middle East. Even if many of the Indians migrate to any other Western country, they have to be patriotic to be good Indians first. By so doing, the Western countries will honor our integrity and will easily qualify us to be Citizens of their country. The process is long, therefore the more patriotic we are , it is to our own personal and family advantage.

Almost fifty Cities in America the Indians celebrated their Independence with joy and pride in spite of the fact that most of them are now American citizens. This is where the Americans witness our patriotism and support our existence with respect and honor. We hope we are sharing our viewpoints in the positive sense and our readers will appreciate our contents in the sincere objective in which they are meant.
