New Delhi, Aug 26: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Sakshi Maharaj’s statements defending Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh who was convicted of rape, has not gone well with the BJP top brass.

According to sources, he may be asked to give an explanation. Meanwhile, BJP leader Kailash Vijaywargiya has lashed out against Maharaj and said that the party does not support his stance. It was not right on his part to question the judicial system, he said.

Sakshi Maharaj on Friday came out in support of the Dera Sacha Sauda chief, after he was convicted in a rape case by a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Panchkula.

"Crores of people follow him (Gurmeet Ram Rahim). Why are we not listening to them? Why are we listening to one person (the victim). Gurmeet Ram Rahim is a noble soul. This is a conspiracy to defame Indian culture and the holy people. If there is further violence, the courts will be responsible," Maharaj had said.

At least 29 people were killed, including two women and a child, and more than 250 injured as violence erupted in Haryana and Punjab after the Dera Sacha Sauda chief was convicted in the rape case.

Congress party has also slammed the BJP over its MP’s remarks. Congress leader Manak Agarwal said that they would write a letter to speaker Sumitra Mahajan to cancel Maharaj's membership from the Lok Sabha. Another Congress leader Pankaj Chaturvedi demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take stern action against him.

    Do agree with you. I have seen the pictures of PM Modi-Venkiah Naidu (VP) and the CM of Goa bowing down in front of the swamis, the swamis are selfless people, they must get some BJP seats at the Parliament.

    How kattarji of Haryana is blessed now! He got a swami to speak at the Haryana Assembly. Also introduced the hardest law in the land to worship the cows. 10 years prison term and Rs 5000.00 penalty for killing a cow. He also must be promoted in the party.

    After Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was convicted of rape and his followers wrecked havoc in parts of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi – leading to the death of at least 30 people – several BJP leaders were left in an awkward position. Several Haryana BJP leaders had gone to pay their respects to the Sirsa-based Dera chief after the elections in 2014.
    BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj invited intense backlash by openly supporting Singh and suggesting that the rape survivor should not be believed.
    In addition to boiling tension Sakshi is tried to communalise by saying “Can the SC or HC call the Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid in this manner? He is also wanted in many cases… Is he their relative? Ram Rahim is a simple man so he is being harassed,”.

Girish bhai, Hinduism is one of the greatest religions and Hindus are among the finest people in the world but the issue here is not about Hindus and non Hindus but politics and politicians are trying to make it that way. All parties are guilty of using religion for political gain but the maximum use of religion for political gain is being done by the BJP and that is the truth. Youngsters need to understand how not to be exploited by politicians who use religious sentiments for votes/support.
